The forthcoming World Chess Championship match between Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana, which will take place in London later this month, has already been mentioned on this blog and further coverage will follow in due course.
With excellent timing, there begins tomorrow the Women’s World Chess Championship – making November 2018 a particularly good month for top-flight chess. This is a tournament rather than a match and the games will be played in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

China’s Ju Wenjun is the reigning champion and highest-rated player, but it will definitely not be an easy task for her to retain the title.
